Hello guys..For today topic I will talk about World Wide Web (www)

The World Wide Web (abbreviated WWW or the Web) is an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. English scientist Tim Berners-Leeinvented the World Wide Web in 1989. He wrote the first web browser computer program in 1990 while employed at CERN in Switzerland.The Web browser was released outside CERN in 1991, first to other research institutions starting in January 1991 and to the general public on the Internet in August 1991.

WEB PAGE
•Each electronic documents on the Web
•Which can contain text, graphics, animation, audio and video
•Two types : Static(fixed); Dynamic (changing)

WEB SITE
•A collection of related web pages and associated items


WORLD WIDE WEB
•Consists of a world wide collection of electronic documents (web pages)

WEB SERVER
•Is a computer that delivers requested Web pages to your computer

HOME PAGE
First page that a web site display


WEB BROWSER

The purpose of a web browser is to bring information resources to the user

Example of web browser:

Internet Explorer

Firefox
Opera
Safari
Google chrome


•Web pages provide links to other related Web pages
Surfing the Web
Downloading is the process of receiving information from a server on the internet
Uploading process of transferring documents, graphics and other objects from a computer to a server on the Internet
Some Web pages are designed specifically for micro browsers (mobile devices)



WEB ADDRESS



A website address, also known as a URL (uniform resource locator), is an Internet or intranet name that points to to a location where a file, directory or website page is hosted. Website addresses can represent the home page of a web site, a script, image, photo, movie or other file made available on a server for viewing, processing or download. They can also be embedded into the code of web pages in the form of hyperlinks to direct the user to other locations on the Internet.

WEB PAGE NAVIGATION

•Surfing the web
–The activity of using links to explore the web
•A link
–Can be text or an image.
•Text links
–May be underlined and/or displayed in a color different from other text on the page
–The color of the link will change once the link has been visited.



Navigating web pages
-Most web pages contain hypertext or hypermedia links
-Consist of two:

Hypertext
Links in text based documents

Hypermedia
Combines text-based links with graphic, audio and video links


WEB SEARCHING

•A primary reason that people use the Web is to search for specific information, including text, pictures, music and video.
•The first step in successful searching is to identify the main idea or concept in the topic about which you are seeking information.

There are two types of search tools;



-Search engine (keyboard search)
Finds information related to a specific topic




-Subject directory (directory search)
Classifies Web pages in an organized set of categorized
